I play on pubs most of the time so generally the player base is a little less skilled and a little more immature. Frankly, I'm to blame for continuing to play on these servers. The following is just a bit of a rant about the attitude of a lot of these players.
They will find any reason whatsoever to claim that their death wasn't due to their lack of skill. The question is, what is there to blame if it isn't due to lack of skill? To be fair, even the best of players on TF2 will die on occasion, the frequency depending on the aggressiveness of their play-style and their willingness to complete objectives rather than camp in spawn. **Ahem.... blue snipers** There are times that the opponent will be at an advantage, such as having high ground, catching you by surprise.etc There are also times where you will lose at even footing, even if you might be more skilled. However, more skilled players and more coherent teams will obviously be able to kill you more often and will die less often. This is all to say that skill matters to a point, but it isn't everything. Regardless, people shouldn't blame everything on their teammates or on bullshit reasons.
The most annoying one in my opinion is calling weapons OP whenever you die to them. Yes, due to the massive amount of weapons in TF2 some will be a bit better than others, but they all have counters. Anyway, If a weapon is so strong, why not use it yourself? Oh right, because you lack the skill to use it as efficiently as the demoman who is destroying your team. I've had people call the black box OP for some reason unbeknownst to me. If you're getting your ass handed to you by a soldier try going pyro. No weapons are strong enough that you will constantly die to them without having the chance to get a revenge kill. When you die, try learning from it and coming up with what you could have done better and how to prevent a similar situation. You won't get better for complaining about weapon disparity, nor will you gain respect from other players.
Another annoying excuse is blaming teammates. When playing with random players your team will often lack any coordination, although it is great when you find that rare player that meshes perfectly with you. Lots of pub players are new to the game and will directly cause your death. Raging at them and calling them NOOB or F2P won't do much good. So many pub players have over-inflated egos from stomping new players and they will gang up on anyone that makes a mistake that affects them directly. Getting mad at your team and trash talking them won't help you win rounds, it won't help you make friends, and nobody enjoys the game. Most of these players are very outspoken so people usually won't talk back to them, but to be honest, most of us dislike you in silence. It would be better to give them pointers or try and lead the team through the objectives. If you're going to be an asshole, just keep quiet.
On that note, I'm going to end this rant. I could keep going on this for hours, but I think I've spewed enough negativity for one day. Moral of the post "Stop using excuses. Focus on improving."
